Laiken Jordahl describes the major federal order halting border construction in the Big Bend as one of the greatest moments of his life. On Friday, U.S. District Court Judge Kathleen Cardone granted the preliminary injunction, writing that the plaintiffs would suffer serious harm without it.

Jordahl, among the plaintiffs, says, “This victory is so historic.”

“You could hear every single person in that courtroom… finally feeling like that, at least for a time, our region would be spared from the destruction,” said Jordahl.

The lawsuit was filed in April by the Center for Biological Diversity, claiming the Department of Homeland Security fast-tracked its nearly $2 billion plan with improper environmental waivers.

Bob Krumenaker calls it “an assault.” The former Big Bend National Park Superintendent testified Friday that the project violated private property rights and endangered habitat protections. The judge ultimately agreed, ruling DHS shall not continue work until it complies with the law.
