Texas members of Congress and U.S. Rep. Jared Huffman, ranking member of the House Natural Resources Committee, urged Trump administration officials to delay work on a proposed road across and over Big Bend National Park’s Mariscal Mountain.

The members of Congress are asking the federal government to release specific details about the project and answer questions about the potential irreparable damage it could cause in the national park.

“The potential destruction from road construction over the rugged terrain of Mariscal Mountain is extreme,” U.S. Rep. Lloyd Doggett said in a news release. “Tons of rock blasted away could end up impacting Mariscal Canyon, the Rio Grande, and Mexico.”

Doggett added that survey work had already begun in the national park and that ground- breaking could be imminent.
