Wild Idea Media | A New Management Plan for the Colorado River, BLM Approves Data Center on Public Land, and Forest Service Initiates ICE Raid

Originally posted August 7, 2026

This week on The Wild Line, we’re tracking a new 10-year Colorado River management plan, the first data center approved on BLM-managed public land, a proposed rare earth mine near Devils Tower, and reporting that Forest Service Law Enforcement participated in an ICE raid along North Carolina’s Wilson Creek. From the fight over the shrunken Bears Ears and Grand Staircase-Escalante monuments to a denied shark listing and pushback on border construction through Big Bend, these stories track how fast public lands policy is shifting.

Despite bipartisan local opposition, construction is proceeding on U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s planned road across Big Bend National Park’s Mariscal Mountain, with equipment now moving into place. Bob Krumenaker, former Big Bend superintendent and current chair of Keep Big Bend Wild, is featured in the episode discussing the potential damage. This week, Texas Congressman Lloyd Doggett, joined by House Natural Resources Committee Ranking Member Jared Huffman, urged Trump administration officials to delay work on the road until project details are made fully available and questions about its potentially irreparable impact are answered.
