Former leaders of Big Bend National Park are urging the Trump administration to abandon border infrastructure projects they warn could permanently damage one of Texas’ most iconic landscapes.
In a letter sent Thursday to Department of Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin, six former superintendents and one former deputy superintendent of Big Bend National Park asked the administration to reject waivers that would allow border barriers, roads, and related infrastructure projects to move forward without environmental review or public input.
“We write to you today as former superintendents and a former deputy superintendent of Big Bend National Park, with 259 collective years of National Park Service experience,” the group wrote in the letter published by the Coalition to Protect America’s National Parks.
