Draft Legislation

Draft Legislation

Keep Big Bend Wild, with the assistance of legal experts familiar with public land laws, has developed a draft of legislation that would designate lands within Big Bend National Park as part of the National Wilderness Preservation System. They would remain part of, and managed by, Big Bend National Park. Only federally-owned lands would be included. The bill acknowledges the importance of border security and directs the NPS and the Border Patrol to cooperate to achieve the mission of both agencies.

Like the draft KBBW Wilderness Map, the draft legislation is a work-in-progress and KBBW welcomes substantive input. Let us know if you have concerns, and how we can improve this proposal.
